I dial the threshold to where I’m only getting about 1-3 dBs of gain reduction on the peaks of the audio. I tend to keep it on the lower side of 1-2 dBs of gain reduction. You just want to kiss the needle. You don’t want to have to much mix buss compression happening. Remember, we are going for a subtle, “glue-like” effect.

There’s something to be said for those memories and those feelings that we associate with cassettes. From where I’m sitting, some other “holy grails” include the Moog Sub Phatty (bass synth perfection), the Oberheim Matrix 6 (the best pad presets), and the Roland Jazz Chorus amplifier (the best clean tone in the game), just to name a few. But the Roland RE-201 might even top that list. Its tone, ease-of-use, and design are unparalleled when it comes to echo/delay effects and it continues to be an inspiration to effects producers to this day.
I would consider the Roland RE-201, also known as the Space Echo, to be a marvel of engineering and musical acumen alike. When it comes to promoting your music, it’s easy to focus on social media, writing emails to your fans, and exciting album launches. But often, the more subtle elements — like crafting an incredible bio or developing your image — are overlooked or put on the back burner.
Because I’m personally so influenced by Nick Cave and Leonard Cohen, I’ve spent a lot of time reading poets like Sappho, Auden, Berryman, and T.S. Eliot, and listening to Jewish and Christian liturgical music, which were all major influences on them. Cohen’s “Suzanne” oozes with classical, religiously steeped references.

An example of this might be using Sibelius to augment students’ learning and practice within a Western section of their curriculum, but introducing digital worksheets, sound libraries, and notational software to learn about Indonesian gamelan composition. Students may discuss what is gained and lost in comparative studies, what shadows exist in traditional software related to microtonal and quartertonal notation, how sound libraries can skew our perceptions of orchestral roles, etc.

It may have seemed like a risky move, but Brown was completely confident in his band and his ability to move an audience. It’s just that… well, Brown had to make very clear to his band that he would triple any fines they got that night for messing up. You know, normal band stuff.
